The Honeywell Eclipse 5145 (MS5145) is a compact, corded single-line 1D laser barcode scanner – an affordable laser alternative to CCD scanners for point of sale, menu scanning, document processing and inventory control. Thanks to Honeywell's CodeGate technology, the operator simply aims at the right barcode and presses the button to send the data, while CodeSense wakes the scanner automatically as soon as a barcode comes into view. It reads standard 13 mil barcodes from contact up to 14 cm at 72 scan lines per second, and its scan line widens with distance, giving it a wider scan field than a typical CCD scanner. Each Eclipse 5145 version is built for one host interface – USB, RS232 or keyboard wedge – so please choose the version that matches your system. Please note: as a 1D laser scanner, it does not read 2D codes such as QR codes, nor barcodes shown on phone screens. This version, MK5145-71C41-EU, is the white (light grey) RS232 version and is supplied with a 2.1 m RS232 cable (DB9) and an EU power supply, ready to connect to the serial port of a PC or POS system.

Key Features
- CodeGate – the operator aims at the desired barcode and confirms with a single press of the button before any data is sent – ideal for scanning from menus, documents and densely packed barcode sheets.
- CodeSense – in standby the laser line pulses; as soon as a barcode is detected, it switches to a steady scan line, waking the scanner automatically from sleep mode.
- Laser instead of CCD – a longer working range and a wider scan field than a typical CCD scanner: the scan line widens as the scanner moves away from the barcode, and 13 mil barcodes are read from contact up to 14 cm at 72 scan lines per second.
- PowerLink cables – user-replaceable cables and power supplies shared with Honeywell Voyager and Orbit scanners, so a damaged cable can be swapped in seconds without opening the scanner.
- Compact and light – only 100 g and 169 × 63 × 51 mm, designed to withstand drops from 1.5 m, with a 3-year Honeywell factory warranty.
- Future-proof – Flash ROM for free firmware updates via MetroSet2 software, and OPOS/JPOS compatible for easy integration into POS systems.
- One interface per version – USB (scanner MS5145-38), RS232 (MS5145-41) or keyboard wedge (MS5145-47): the interface is defined by the scanner version, so please choose the version that matches your host system and use a matching cable.
- 1D only – please check your barcodes – the Eclipse 5145 reads linear barcodes printed on labels, packaging and documents (EAN/UPC, Code 128, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, GS1 DataBar and more). It does not read QR codes, Data Matrix, PDF417 or other 2D codes, nor barcodes shown on phone screens; for those, choose the Honeywell Voyager XP 1470g 2D scanner.
Ideal Applications
- Checkouts in small shops, kiosks and cafés with printed EAN/UPC barcodes
- Menu scanning, order sheets and document processing, where CodeGate prevents reading the wrong barcode
- Inventory control, libraries, offices and service counters scanning printed 1D barcodes
- Existing POS and ERP systems with an RS232 serial or PS/2 keyboard port (RS232 and keyboard wedge versions)

Not sure which version you need? For most PCs and POS systems, choose a USB kit – MK5145-31A38-EU (black) or MK5145-71A38-EU (white) with a 2.9 m USB cable, or MK5145-32A38-EU, which adds a desk holder. For a serial (DB9) port, the RS232 kits MK5145-31C41-EU and MK5145-71C41-EU include the RS232 cable and an EU power supply, while MS5145-41-3-EU is the RS232 scanner on its own – ideal as a replacement if you already have the cable and power supply. For a PS/2 keyboard port, choose the keyboard wedge kit MK5145-71A47-EU. Replacement cables, stands, a desk holder, a wall mount and power supplies are available as accessories. Need to read QR codes or barcodes on phone screens? Choose a 2D scanner such as the Honeywell Voyager XP 1470g.
