Zebra ZD421 vs ZD411: 4-inch or 2-inch desktop printer?
The ZD421 and ZD411 are the same printer platform in two widths. They share the speeds, resolutions, buttons, lights and options, and Zebra documents them together. The difference is the label width: the ZD421 prints up to 104 mm wide for 4-inch labels, the ZD411 up to 56 mm for 2-inch labels. The ZD421 also takes larger ribbons and offers a ribbon cartridge version.

What both printers share
Zebra covers the ZD411 and ZD421 in the same documentation family, with identical buttons, lights and procedures. SmartCal (PAUSE + CANCEL), the configuration report (FEED + CANCEL) and the factory resets work the same way. Both speak ZPL and EPL and take the same kinds of options: battery, dispenser and cutter. Our ZD421 calibration guide and ZD421 lights and errors therefore also apply to the ZD411, apart from widths and ribbon sizes.
Both can ship with Zebra's extra EU security when bought in Europe from 1 August 2025; wireless models then need a Protected Mode password during setup, as described in our ZD421 setup guide.
Where they really differ
Label width
This decides it in most cases. The ZD411 takes media up to 60 mm wide and prints up to 56 mm. The ZD421 takes media up to 108–118 mm wide, depending on the version, and prints up to 104 mm, enough for common 4-inch shipping labels.
Ribbon
The ZD411t uses only 74 m ribbons. The ZD421t also takes 300 m ribbons, which last about four times as long. The ZD421c uses a 74 m cartridge with a smart chip that warns when the ribbon runs low.
