The Zebra SP72-H is a horizontal single-plane in-counter scanner for fast manned and self-service checkouts – a zero-footprint 2D imager that sits flush with the counter top and is a drop-in replacement for popular legacy in-counter installations. Its 2.3-megapixel sensor with Zebra PRZM Intelligent Imaging captures virtually every 1D, 2D and Digimarc barcode – on paper labels and on phone screens – as items are swiped across the scan window, and the scanner is backed by a 3-year (36-month) Zebra warranty. This version, SP7201-SH00004DCWW, is the SP7201 model with all the essential POS features and a USB host interface, with integrated Checkpoint EAS deactivation (EAS cable CBL-CE0072 included) and a diamond-like coated (DLC) glass scan window; it is supplied without an interface cable – please order the cable for your POS separately.
📦 What's in the box – SP7201-SH00004DCWW
- Zebra SP7201-H horizontal scanner – SP7201: USB only, Checkpoint EAS, Midnight Black
- Glass platter (scan window) – diamond-like coated (DLC) glass – durable and cost-effective
- Checkpoint EAS cable – Zebra CBL-CE0072 – connects the scanner to your Checkpoint deactivation system
💡 To get started, you might also consider a USB cable to connect the scanner to your PC or POS system.
🔒 Checkpoint EAS: the included CBL-CE0072 cable connects the scanner's EAS port to your Checkpoint deactivation system. Thanks to the interlock, a tag is only deactivated after its barcode has been scanned.

Key Features
- Swipe and go – swipe speeds of up to 305 cm/s (13 mil UPC) and a large 54° × 35.5° reading area capture barcodes as quickly as they are presented, so cashiers and self-checkout users rarely need to position an item.
- PRZM Intelligent Imaging – a 2.3-megapixel sensor reads virtually any 1D, 2D and Digimarc barcode, on paper or on mobile screens, including poorly printed, damaged, crinkled and faded codes; offset illumination handles reflective barcodes on glass bottles, phones and cellophane.
- Integrated Checkpoint EAS deactivation with interlock – the security tag is deactivated only when the barcode is scanned, which speeds up checkout and eliminates sweethearting and other forms of shrink.
- Zero-footprint in-counter design – the SP72-H (15.2 × 15.2 cm) sits flush with the counter top, so items simply slide across the scan window and the counter stays free; it is a drop-in replacement for popular legacy in-counter scanners (159 mm square cut-out, with the optional bucket mount BRKT-BM0072-00).
- Sapphire or DLC glass – choose sapphire glass for maximum scratch resistance in busy lanes, or diamond-like coated (DLC) glass as the durable, budget-friendly option; if the glass platter is ever damaged, it can be swapped in seconds (MISC-SG0072 / MISC-DG0072).
- Shrink prevention built in – Non-Decode Event alerts flag items that pass the scanner without a successful scan, and upward-facing good-decode LEDs are visible to attendants and overhead video systems.
- Eye-friendly illumination and custom tones – the recessed deep red LEDs light up only when an item is in the scan zone (adjustable down to off), and the speaker plays a classic beep, melodic tones or your own custom sounds.
- USB plug and play – the SP7201-H connects via USB and is powered over the USB cable, so no external power supply is needed.
- Durable and spill-resistant – IP52 sealing protects the scanner against dust and spills at the checkout.
- Zebra DataCapture DNA – set up scanners with 123Scan, convert barcode types with selectable label identifiers, manage them remotely with Scanner Management Service (SMS), stream data with IoT Connector and track scanner health with Remote Diagnostics; 36-month Zebra warranty.
Ideal Applications
- Supermarkets and grocery stores – fast manned checkout lanes with the scanner built into the counter
- Self-checkout lanes – a flush scan window that shoppers simply slide items across
- Convenience stores, pharmacies and specialty retail – space-saving in-counter scanning of paper and mobile barcodes
- Replacing legacy in-counter scanners – drops into the familiar 159 mm square counter opening
- Stores using Checkpoint or Sensormatic EAS – barcode scanning and tag deactivation in a single pass

Not sure which version you need? Choose an SP7201-H if a USB connection is all you need, or an SP7208-H for RS232, Keyboard Wedge or IBM connections, the AUX port for a handheld scanner and the external speaker port. Then pick the EAS version that matches your store's security tags – the Checkpoint versions include the CBL-CE0072 EAS cable – and the scan glass: sapphire for maximum scratch resistance or DLC as the cost-effective option. All versions are supplied without an interface cable. Compare other models in our In-Counter Barcode Scanners collection or contact our team for volume pricing.
