Fixes
1. Battery doesn't chargeCharge level stays the same, or the battery light flashes
CauseTemperature, a weak power supply, a seating problem or a battery fault.
Fix
- Orange, flashing: charging is paused. Charge at 10–30 °C, unplug USB devices and use the Panasonic AC adapter rather than a weaker USB-C charger.
- Red, flashing: the battery or charging circuit is faulty. Remove the battery at once and contact us.
- No light: switch Concealed mode off (Fix 5), then refit the battery and AC adapter. If the light stays off, unplug the AC cord for at least 3 minutes to reset the adapter's protection.
2. Battery level is wrongPercentage jumps, runtime much shorter than expected
CauseThe battery gauge has drifted. Panasonic recommends a recalibration after purchase and about every 3 months.
Fix
- Connect the AC adapter (recalibration doesn't run on USB-C power) and work at 10–30 °C.
- 55 with PC Settings Utility: open Panasonic PC Settings Utility › Support › Battery › Perform battery recalibration. Windows shuts down; restart, press Enter and confirm with Yes. G2, or a 55 with PC Hub: start Battery Recalibration in the PC Hub Toolbox.
- Keep the adapter connected until it finishes (on the 55 about 3 hours charging plus 4.5 hours discharging per battery). Don't repeat it within a month.
3. Device switches off during a battery swapScreen goes black when a battery is removed
CauseNothing powered the device while the battery was out.
Fix
- 55: fit the second battery in the right-hand Front Expansion Slot. Slide the latch and swap only if the replacement light is green; flashing red means shut down first.
- G2: hot swapping needs a model with a built-in bridge battery. Swap only when the battery light is green and finish within one minute. Otherwise shut down first, and never remove the battery during sleep.
4. Touch screen problemsGloves or pen not recognised, false touches, wrong position
CauseWrong touch mode, calibration, or water or dirt on the glass.
Fix
- Clean and dry the screen and use the supplied pen.
- 55: in Panasonic PC Settings Utility › Settings › Touchscreen, choose Touch, Touch (Glove), Pen or Pen/Touch. If touches land in the wrong place, run Control Panel › Hardware and Sound › Tablet PC Settings › Calibrate as administrator. A scratched screen protector can be replaced.
- G2: Panasonic lists glove, pen and rain modes, and a Touchscreen Firmware Update Utility for FZ-G2[N/P] that improves stability, on the Panasonic download page.
5. Screen, lights or sound go offDisplay dark, no lights, no sound, no wireless
CauseConcealed mode can turn off the display, lights, sound, wireless and keyboard backlight together.
Fix
- Press Fn + F8 to switch Concealed mode off, waiting more than 4 seconds between presses. On the G2, the A1 button can also be the trigger.
- To enable or disable the feature, use Main › Concealed Mode Configuration in the Setup Utility (factory default: enabled on the 55, disabled on the G2).
- 55: Fn + 3 switches Day/Night mode in Manual mode; Fn + F12 sets the keyboard backlight.
6. No wireless connectionNo Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or mobile data
CauseAirplane or Concealed mode, a radio disabled in the Setup Utility, or the SIM or APN.
Fix
- Turn off airplane mode (Fn + F10 or quick settings) and Concealed mode.
- In the Setup Utility, check that the radio is Enabled under Advanced › Wireless Configuration.
- Mobile data: only one SIM is active at a time. In Settings › Network & internet › Cellular, choose SIM 1 (nano-SIM) or SIM 2 (eSIM), check the SIM PIN and add the APN under Mobile operator settings › Add APN. Reselect the SIM after a recovery.
- Restart and install the latest drivers from the Panasonic download page.
7. Dock or mount not workingNo charging, ports or display in the dock
CauseDocked while running, no dock power, or an incompatible dock.
Fix
- Dock and undock only while the device is off, and keep the AC adapter connected, as Panasonic specifies. Check the dock's power and seat the device until it locks.
- Check compatibility. Panasonic lists the CF-VEB541 and FZ-VEB55 series port replicators for the 55 mk3 (which also fits TOUGHBOOK 54 docks from Gamber-Johnson and Havis) and the FZ-VEBG11AU and FZ-VEBG21 series cradles for the G2 mk3. For other docks, ask us.
8. Open the BIOS (Setup Utility)Boot order, passwords, device settings
CausePanasonic's BIOS settings program is called the Setup Utility.
Fix
- Press F2 or Del while the "Panasonic" boot screen is shown.
- Or, in Windows, open Settings › System › Recovery, select Restart now next to Advanced startup, then Troubleshoot › Advanced options › UEFI Firmware Settings › Restart.
- Panasonic notes that text input in the Setup Utility uses the English (US) keyboard layout. On a German (QWERTZ) keyboard, Y and Z are swapped there, so set passwords carefully.
9. Reinstall or recover WindowsWindows won't start or errors keep returning
CauseA damaged Windows installation or a failed update.
Fix
- Back up your files and connect the AC adapter. Open Settings › System › Recovery, select Reset PC and choose Keep my files or Remove everything. Have your BitLocker recovery key ready.
- If that fails, use Exit › Recovery Partition in the Setup Utility, following the Reference Manual. This erases the SSD. If it returns to the Setup Utility, Panasonic's fix is the Windows update from the fourth week of June 2026 or later.
- Without a working recovery partition, use the Recovery Image Download Service: its utility builds a recovery USB stick (32 GB or more for MUI models like ours) from the model and serial number.
- 55 mk3: the recovery image only starts if the "Windows UEFI CA 2023" certificate is in the BIOS, so install all Windows updates first.
